I Visited Ireland's Best Seaside Town on Its Worst Day

Right, so this one was always going to be a challenge because it absolutely chucked it down for pretty much the entire time I was in Kinsale, this gorgeous little harbour town down on the south coast of County Cork. I'd already done Dingle (the internet reckons these two are the best seaside towns in Ireland, so naturally I had to do both), and I wasn't about to sack it off after paying to get here. So I braved the rain at Charles Fort, got hopelessly lost down the colourful back streets, ducked into a proper old pub for a pint of Murphy's, and even faced my fears with a seafood chowder and some monkfish at Jim Edwards — me, the bloke whose idea of seafood is fish and chips and a garlic prawn if he's feeling brave. I also checked into Perryville House, the best-rated hotel in town, which set me back a fair bit but was honestly up there with the nicest places I've stayed. Oh, and I met my long-lost Irish twin. Stick around, it's a good 'un.
