‘PATHOLOGICALLY SICK Empathising With Illegal Migrants’ | Iran 'Sends Spies Into UK By Small Boats'

Reports that Iran has attempted to send suspected covert operatives into Britain through Channel migrant routes have intensified concerns about the national-security implications of uncontrolled crossings. The Telegraph reported that Iranian-linked individuals had been detected using small boats to enter the UK, although this does not mean that ordinary Iranian asylum seekers or Channel migrants are agents. The allegation comes amid a broader Iranian state threat. British security officials have previously said that MI5 and the police disrupted at least 20 potentially lethal Iran-backed plots from 2022 onwards, including alleged plans targeting dissidents and Jewish communities in Britain. Iran has denied accusations that it directs hostile operations in the UK. Almost 39,000 people arrived in Britain by small boat during the year ending March 2026, representing approximately 90% of detected unauthorised arrivals. Nearly all Channel arrivals subsequently claim asylum. However, Channel arrivals fell sharply during the first seven months of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025. The security allegations therefore concern the potential exploitation of the route by hostile actors rather than evidence that every migrant crossing represents a growing security threat.
