Four million voters are set to lose their say in May’s local elections in what has been branded a “shameful assault on democracy” by Labour. The Government is reportedly planning to call off at least 27 council elections, allowing hundreds of councillors to sidestep the possibility of being voted out of office. The Conservatives and Reform UK have accused Sir Keir Starmer of “hiding from voters” amid polling that suggests Labour’s support is slumping. Nigel Farage’s party is expected to launch a judicial review on Thursday in a bid to force the elections to proceed.
