Description
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer makes a statement to MPs in the Commons on Peter Mandelsonโs security vetting.
Starmer has faced calls to resign for the appointment of Mandelson as US Ambassador after it emerged the Labour peer failed the vetting process.
The PM claims he was "not aware" there was a recommendation against giving Mandelson security clearance for the ambassador role - which was overruled by the Foreign Office, according to a document produced by No.10.
At least two senior civil servants knew weeks ago that Peter Mandelson had failed security vetting for the role, Sky News understands.
Sir Olly Robbins - who Starmer sacked from the Foreign Office over the vetting issue - is set to be grilled by MPs on the foreign affairs committee this week.
