Description
The resignations have begun, putting Sir Keir Starmer’s premiership teetering on the brink.
This afternoon, Alex Davies-Jones, the victims minister, joined Jess Phillips, the safeguarding minister, in standing down from the Government as more than 80 MPs publicly called on the Prime Minister to resign. Meanwhile, would-be challengers Wes Streeting and Andy Burnham are working on their succession plans.
Will Sir Keir resign? And who would replace him if he does? As Westminster waits on tenterhooks, Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley consider how the situation might play out.
They are joined by Karl Turner, the suspended Labour MP, who calls the situation “barmy” and offers the damning assessment that “on the doorstep, Keir Starmer is more toxic than Jeremy Corbyn ever was”.
