Description
We’re bringing a 90-year-old Austin 10 into the 21st century! But before we start making parts, we need to get the engine into the digital world.
This is the first episode in our Austin 10 restomod series, where we’re taking our 1935 Austin 10 Litchfield and giving it some modern engineering while keeping its original character.
The plan is to fit electronic fuel injection, improve the brakes and suspension, tackle some of those notorious old oil leaks and generally make this 90-year-old car a little more usable without losing what makes it special.
In this episode, we’ve teamed up with Revopoint to put their Trackit SR 3D scanner to work. We unbox the scanner and TrackKit, take a look at how it all works, and then get stuck into scanning the Austin’s engine.
I’ll take you through the scanning process, explain some of the things I’ve learned about getting accurate results, and show how we can turn an old engine into a digital 3D model ready for designing and manufacturing our own parts.
It’s a fascinating bit of technology, and hopefully the beginning of a very interesting project!
