I've been away for a while.
But I'm slowly working my way back, and recently, my mom came out to the high desert to be with me. We spent some much needed quality time together, and while she was here we tackled a very satisfying house project... staining the concrete slab floor of my off-grid straw bale house using a completely natural process: iron sulfate as a base layer, followed by a strong walnut hull tea rich in juglone, a compound that chemically bonds with iron and the minerals in concrete to create a permanent color change.
What we ended up with is a deep, coppery, earthy floor that is warm and inviting and completely one of a kind. A piece of art, that I get to live on for the rest of my life.
I'm building my own 1,200 square foot straw bale house on 40 acres of raw desert, completely off-grid. This is what that looks like.
Thanks for being here ♥️
