Description
Additional RCMP have been deployed to Leaf Rapids in northern Manitoba after a week-long violent crime spree that saw a man killed, people shot and a home set on fire.
A 21-year-old man was murdered on June 17. In the days that followed, RCMP say gunshots, arson and thefts have kept police busy.
On June 19, a 17-year-old was shot and is now recovering from their injuries.
Residents say the town is facing a humanitarian crisis. The community has been under a boil-water advisory since 2013, and meanwhile, the only available grocery store will soon shut its doors.
As Melissa Ridgen reports, residents are calling for action from the federal and provincial governments.
