“A lot of people are scared”: Residents plead for help after week of violence in Leaf Rapids

Additional RCMP have been deployed to Leaf Rapids in northern Manitoba after a week-long violent crime spree that saw a man killed, people shot and a home set on fire. A 21-year-old man was murdered on June 17. In the days that followed, RCMP say gunshots, arson and thefts have kept police busy. On June 19, a 17-year-old was shot and is now recovering from their injuries. Residents say the town is facing a humanitarian crisis. The community has been under a boil-water advisory since 2013, and meanwhile, the only available grocery store will soon shut its doors.
